Solid results in the battle against climate change
PureSphera (Recyclage Écosolutions) has more than eight years’ experience optimizing the recovery of air conditioning, refrigeration and dehumidification equipment to eliminate halocarbons and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
A leader in GHG reduction
Through our Freezponsible program with municipalities and our partnerships with Hydro-Québec, Manitoba Hydro and SaskPower, our actions are making a difference in addressing climate change.
As of April 30, 2016
cooling appliances recycled since 2008
tonnes of CO2 reduced since 2008
tonnes of ODS (ozone-depleting substances) destroyed
Our new Centre de Gestion Intégrée des Halocarbures (CGIH) in Bécancour will reduce GHG emissions by as much as 500,000 tonnes a year, equivalent to taking some 140,000 compact cars off the road, thereby protecting the ozone layer.
Recovery of 50,000 tonnes of raw materials: steel, plastic, copper, aluminum, glass and polyurethane powder, oil and mercury.
1 tonne of halocarbons (CFC R12) equals
10,000 tonnes of CO22 or
2,800 compact cars operating year-round.
PureSphera carried out the very first all-Quebec 100% carbon offset transaction in history. More than 461,500 offset credits were sold and invested in Quebec. Gaz Métro purchased these first Quebec offset credits
Remember that since January 1, 2015, Gaz Métro has been subject to the Quebec-California carbon market as a fuel distributor and must offset its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and those of its customers, both consumers and small businesses. Three options were open to Gaz Métro to acquire emission rights: auction sales organized between Quebec and California, buyback of other companies’ surpluses, and acquisition of offset credits generated by the industry.
