Manitoba’s organizations reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Rural Municipality of Elton, City of Brandon, Bristal Hauling and Mother Earth Recycling got their FreezPonsible certification for recycling optimally refrigeration and cooling appliances. Just on improperly recycled refrigerator generates as much pollution as a car driven 17,000 km in one year!  The company PureSphera, located in Winnipeg, has developed unique solutions to solve this problem. When they reach the end of their useful life cycle, these cooling appliances become waste material. Most of the time, […]

Poor recycling techniques in China are the culprit for the CFC-11 emissions increase

May 25, 2018 Only a week ago, a report was issued that a banned chemical, chlorofluorocarbon (CFC-11), that destroys the ozone layer was being released from somewhere in Asia. Now, an international team of researchers claims to have discovered the source of the CFC-11 emissions. The results have been published in Environmental Science & Technology. The substance in question is a chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) called CFC-11, and it was once used in refrigerators. But in 2006, the production of CFC-11 was banned under the Montreal Protocol, which regulates chemicals that damage the ozone layer. However, on May 16th, Stephen Montzka of the U.S. National […]
